Just a quick update. Poppy has now completed 3 weeks (15 sessions) of radiotherapy. She is still doing amazingly well. She has mentioned some 'popping' in her right ear - but we now know that she is getting a much higher dose on that side anyway. There is also a strong possibility that she will lose some of her hearing on that side.
Poppy woke up on Friday morning with a bald patch on the right of her head, at the front of her ear. Well, you'd have thought it was Christmas to see how she reacted!!! 'YIPPEE!!! The Hair Fairy has been!!!' We've always told Poppy that there is a Hair Fairy, who knows when children are having special medicines that will make their hair fall out. We've said that she collects the hair to make blankets for baby fairies,....then leaves a present in return! I very quickly found a little present & wrote a letter from the fairy to Poppy. Poppy was proudly showing everyone all weekend her new bald spot!!! She is now waiting for some more hair to fall out too. I'm really pleased that we managed to make it a special time for Poppy, but I must confess to shedding some tears in private. However, it is only hair & really is the least worrying of any side-effects.
For Poppy's treat on Friday, we went to Southport, to the seaside. Unfortunately, it rained all day!!! But we still had fun. We didn't realise, but we had been there before, on our way back from Blackpool the weekend after Poppy was diagnosed. It was Mother's Day in 2004. When I saw the carousel on the sea-front, old memories came flooding back. How much more optimistic & positive it felt this time. I really did think that 2004 was gong to be my last Mother's Day with Poppy. It was fantastic to be back there with our cheeky little girl, splashing around in the puddles wearing her full High School Musical costume!!!! We are very lucky & extremely grateful.
Thanks everyone for your continuing prayers & thoughts, they mean so much to us.
I hope this email finds everyone well.
Love to all,
Lisa, Brian & Poppy
