Poppy Fields Royal Ball 2009
We just wanted to share the news of the success of our ball which took place on Saturday night at Drayton Manor. It was our 4th annual ball & the biggest yet, with 250 guests!!! The theme was 'Royal' & as always we were amazed by the costumes people wore!!! Well done everyone!!
The night began with a fantastic meal, the best yet from Drayton Manor. We then showed our ball video & explained about our charity. We set a fundraising target of £5000 for the night. Then everyone had great fun dancing to ABBA tribute band 'The Abba Honeyz' & then DJ Noel Walker.
Later on we also had our raffle draw & announced the winners of the items in our silent auction. We then totalled the money raised...to discover we had smashed our aim of £5000 & had achieved £6500!!!! We were thrilled & amazed at the generosity of people, especially during the credit crunch. THANK YOU EVERYONE!!! (At the end of this email you will see a list of some of the people that we need to thank specifically for their support.)
We have already booked the next ball which will take place at Drayton Manor on Saturday 27th March 2010....the theme will be 'Heroes & Villains'. Tickets will be £25 on a first paid first served basis!!! We didn't think we could fill the Tower Suite....how wrong we were!!! So, now we are excited to do it again!!!
This takes our total raised to a huge £92,500!!! WOW!!! Obviously, our next aim has to be £100,000!!! We are going to try to take a break from fundraising for a few months, but are already planning ideas for the future!!! One of Brian's thoughts is a 'Silly Socks for Poppy' day, where we invite schools & companies to take part - with people simply donating £1 each to wear their silly socks! If you think that you might like to take part in this, please let us know & we can forward more details on when further planning has been done.
We are meeting Dr Peet & Mr Solanki (Neurosurgeon) at BCH today, to discuss options for Poppy. However, as she is still as well as ever & not showing any symptoms of the pressure in her brain, we are hoping that they will decide to hold off surgery for now. Her next scan is on 16th February, that's only 6 weeks between scans, the shortest gap since Poppy was diagnosed almost 5 years ago. We are hoping that the tumour is continuing to respond & that the cyst is behaving itself too!!
Love to all & thanks for your continued support,
Lisa, Brian & Poppy Guilder
