Really interesting discussion at BCH today - Poppy was tested back in October to see how she has been affected intellectually by her tumour & 10 years of treatment. Amazingly, in most areas she is well above average - her 'ability to learn' was at the 99th centile!! WOW!! Her barriers are an inability to process visual information (e.g. graphs) - so she will always need a verbal or written explanation to help her with this. Also, she struggles with retaining new information - however as her actual memory is well above average, this can be solved by repeating information or instructions 2 or 3 times. There were no other issues!!!! Considering she has had 4 brain surgeries - 3 of which were 6-8 hour risky debulking surgeries & radiotherapy at only 5-years-old, it is phenomenal. Poppy's brain has developed new pathways to combat some of the damage she has suffered & Poppy's determination & stubbornness has helped tremendously xxx we are really relieved & incredibly proud xxx
